Marzena’s journey to mission work and embracing the call

Marzena, also known as Maya, a dedicated lay missionary from Poland, embarked on a profound decade-long journey to answer her calling to lay missionary work, inspired by encounters with Comboni fathers and overcoming intense fears to fulfill her vocation.

Marzena began her extraordinary journey with a deep-seated dream of mission work, sparked by encounters with Comboni fathers at her parish’s mission events in 2018. Intrigued by their impactful work, Marzena spent four years contemplating opportunities for lay people before courageously committing to this path. Despite grappling with fears of violence, diseases, and adapting to new climates and foods, her unwavering inner calling and steadfast guidance from her spiritual mentor propelled her forward on this transformative mission journey.

Reflecting on the letters of Saint Daniel Comboni, she found solace in his struggles and determination, ultimately deciding to participate in a mission experience in Uganda for three weeks. This experience further solidified her calling, erasing much of her fear as she boarded the plane towards her mission destination.
