Prayers for Peace: Our Confreres Leave El Obeid Amid Escalating Conflict

In response to the escalating conflict in Sudan, three confreres from the El Obeid community have relocated to Kosti, following a directive from the provincial superior. This decision comes amid increasing violence and the capture of key areas, including Fula in West Kordofan, Sennar, and Sinja.

The situation in Sudan has grown increasingly dire, with the conflict between the Rapid Support Forces and the regular army expanding rather than decreasing. This has led to significant concerns about security and mobility in the region. In light of these developments, our confreres’ relocation is a precautionary measure to ensure their safety.

Alongside our confreres, the last remaining religious in El Obeid have also departed. This group includes four Missionaries of Charity and two Sisters of the Sacred Heart. Despite these departures, the bishop has chosen to stay in El Obeid, accompanied by three diocesan priests and a small number of Christians who have yet to leave the area.

The situation remains precarious, and the safety of those who remain in El Obeid is of utmost concern. We urge everyone to keep our confreres and the people of Sudan in their prayers, hoping for a swift end to the violence and a return to peace and stability.

Let us come together in solidarity, praying for the safety of our confreres and for the gift of peace in Sudan. (comboni.org)
