Bishop Cleophas Osese has warned that President William Ruto’s decision to recycle old Cabinet members could trigger new protests, as the recent appointments have failed to meet public expectations.
The decision to recycle old members of the Cabinet may ignite fresh protests, Bishop Cleophas Osese has cautioned. The Nakuru-based bishop criticized President William Ruto’s recent appointments, calling them cosmetic and disappointing to Kenyans.
“The new list of Cabinet appointees does not meet public expectations, and we hope Parliament will do their part during the vetting process,” Osese stated.
His remarks came two days after the President named 11 new Cabinet members in the first phase of appointments. Bishop Cleophas Osese also opposed the proposal to form a government of national unity, arguing it would undermine the spirit of democracy by weakening the opposition.
“A country should have a vocal opposition, and we are questioning whose interests these politicians serve by seeking a government of national unity,” he said.
The bishop emphasized the church’s support for peaceful demonstrations by Gen Z while condemning looting and excessive police force, which resulted in loss of life. He urged the community to remember the elderly suffering from poverty.
Bishop Osese made these comments in Kinungi, Naivasha, during a distribution of food and clothes to the elderly. Jude Otogo from the Ethel Foundation highlighted their efforts to support the elderly through nutrition, health checks, and advocacy, operating in five counties.
Hellen Kuria from Kenya Community Development identified neglect as a major issue facing the elderly, while beneficiary Margaret Wambui expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting the hardships faced by many older individuals.
